Press Release: First RevivalDRIVE Video Goes Live

See and hear the hotly anticipated Origin Effects overdrive in action

Oxfordshire, UK (29.03.18) – The subject of intense speculation since it was first announced, the Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE is shaping up to be one of this year’s most exciting new pedals. Now the first video demo of this unique overdrive have been posted online, giving guitarists the opportunity to see and hear the RevivalDRIVE for themselves.

The first overdrive of its kind, the RevivalDRIVE uses all-analogue electronics to recreate the complex behaviour and interaction of every stage in a valve amp’s signal path. With comprehensive controls that adjust key component values in each stage – effectively redesigning the amp as you go – the RevivalDRIVE lets you dial in the precise tone, drive character and dynamic response of classic, well-known vintage valve amps from both sides of the Atlantic, or combine different elements to create your own dream amp tone.

The RevivalDRIVE is also the first pedal capable of delivering unique valve amp characteristics like power amp sag and “ghost tones”. Also known as “double tones”, “ghost notes” or “ghosting”, ghost tones are a phenomenon encountered when certain vintage valve amps are cranked up loud. As the power amp is pushed to its limits, low frequency tones start to appear underneath the note actually being fretted. A crucial ingredient of countless classic guitar tones, ghost notes have the magical effect of thickening up lead lines and solos, creating a powerful, three-dimensional sound. The RevivalDRIVE makes it possible to access these authentic overdrive textures in a completely controllable way.

The RevivalDRIVE is now available to pre-order from Origin Effects and their network of dealers. The interest around the first batch of pre-orders has been much higher than anticipated so Origin Effects are urging new customers to get their pre-orders in without delay to avoid slipping down the waiting list.

The RevivalDRIVE is expected to start shipping at the end of April.

About the RevivalDRIVE

The RevivalDRIVE is the first overdrive pedal from Origin Effects, the creators of the game-changing Cali76 and SlideRIG compressors. For these pedals, Origin took the legendary Urei 1176 as their inspiration. By following the same analogue circuit topology but adapting the design and components to work in a pedal format, they managed to deliver the sound and response of this classic studio compressor in a stompbox.

For the RevivalDRIVE, they’ve applied the same approach to overdrive. But rather than look at other effects, they’ve gone straight to the source of great overdriven tone – the vintage non-master-volume valve amps of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s.

The RevivalDRIVE houses an unabridged valve amp-style signal path, including the preamp, phase inverter, power amp and rectifier stages, a synthesised mains power signal and a speaker-emulating reactive load.

The footswitchable Valve Rectifier and Silicon Rectifier channels feature a comprehensive array of controls that let you adjust gain, preamp voicing, low-end distortion, presence and clean-to-overdriven break-up characteristics. You can also set how much of the ghosting effect you want and tweak power amp sag characteristics. The pedal features a fully variable, switchable mid-range boost, as well as a blend control that can be used to mix the dry and overdriven signals together.

The RevivalDRIVE also boasts clever EQ compensation features so that the player can adapt the pedal’s output to suit their amp of choice, or even plug straight into a PA or flat-response power amp.

The RevivalDRIVE CUSTOM takes this concept even further, adding extra EQ and filter controls that let you fine-tune the pedal to match almost any amplifier.

About Origin Effects

Origin Effects is the brainchild of Simon Keats, a guitarist, electronic engineer and analogue circuit designer who has worked for the likes of Vox, Focusrite and Trident Audio. Having built bespoke effects for professional musicians and producers for many years, he launched the Origin Effects brand in 2012 to bring his exceptional designs to a wider audience.

His first two pedals – the Cali76 compressor and the unique SlideRig dual-chained compressor – were soon followed by the Compact Series for guitar and bass. Widely recognised as the best pedal compressors ever made, they have found favour with guitarists and like David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, Steve Lukather, Lenny Kravitz, Ed O’Brien and Graham Coxon, as well as Grammy Award-winning producers like Paul Epworth, Ross Hogarth and Terry Britten.
